Congratulations to our 6th year students who competed on Friday night in the Irish Mathematics Teachers' Association (IMTA) North Dublin regional competition. Ardgillan Community College, Balbriggan hosted the regional final and a lovely atmosphere was created by the thirteen teams involved. This was one of twelve regional finals being held simultaneously across Ireland.
Three teams from St Declan's College were entered. Ms Ahern has been working with these students during lunch time since last October. The students, in teams of fours, had six minutes to answer each set of questions over eight rounds. The overall winner of the competition was St Declan's College with a second school team involved in a three way tie break for third place. St Peter's College were runners up. Both winners and runners up advance now to the National Final which takes place in March.
Great credit is due to all students involved especially after beginning their mock Leaving certificate examinations on Friday morning. The participating students were Luke Andrade, Aaron Betamor, Donald Biju, Enda Byard-Shaughnessy, Michael Casserly, Stephen Casserly, Nathan Chirayath, Rohan Mathew, Jamie Nagle, Darragh Niegemann, Chibuikem Onwumereh, and Jake O'Regan.
Each of the winning students received a beautiful plaque and the overall prize.
Many thanks to the IMTA for organising the competition, Ardgillan Community College for hosting the event and being so welcoming on the night and to Ms Ahern and Mr Monaghan for their work and encouragement of the students. We wish each of them every success in the final.
